Question by Danielle: looking to buy a remote starter for my Leica?
I just bought a Leica DSLR camera and am looking to buy a remote starter for it. I tried searching online for Leica ones, but they only had one on Amazon for R model cameras which I do not have. Can I use just any remote starter for my Leica or does it have to be special just for my camera model?

This question is fascinating… but I can’t answer it without further details.
1) By remote starter, you mean a shutter release, right? A simple wireless device or a cable, for when the camera is on a tripod and you’re standing right next to it. Or do you need something more advanced than that… for automatic time lapse photography, triggering the shutter from hundreds of yards away, hooking the camera up to a motion detector, etc.?
2) I doubt you have a Leica dSLR. Leica’s only dSLR options are their digital back for the old R8 and R9 film SLR cameras – which you say you don’t have – and the $ 23.000 medium format S2 which isn’t shipping yet. That leaves Leica’s (digital) rangefinders and, more likely, their (digital) point & shoot cameras. What’s the model?
I’ll check back later.

Never mind. I just saw your other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091026173711AAJifBM
Like Steve said there, the V-LUX1 is basically a rebranded Panasonic DMC-FZ50 point & shoot camera: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=leica_vlux1%2Cpanasonic_dmcfz50&show=all
Here’s a cheaper cable release from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MOKPNQ
Why not get that one and just glue a cardboard red dot on it. Bada bing, some more professional Leica gear on a budget!
