What is the difference between a Leica V-Lux 1 and the Panasonic DMC-FZ50?

Question by Jessie: What is the difference between a Leica V-Lux 1 and the Panasonic DMC-FZ50?
I’m looking at DSLRs… and besides the name brand, ISO capabilities, and price… am not seeing a big difference between the two cameras?

As a serious amateur, which one should I get? Is the Leica worth almost $ 400 more? The flip-out screen feature is IMPORTANT to me, and I’m not seeing any other 10 megapixel cameras which have this feature.

…though i’m looking more so at the panasonic, the leica has some rare qualities, if you could try them both and others out for a day, it may resolve this issue, i think you know better than anyone as well, good luck, have fun, ☺♥

Leica D-Lux 4 with accessories
leica

After getting the Lumix LX3 in August 2008, I ‘upgraded’ to the D-Lux 4 in October. Both cameras are largely identical. The D-Lux-4 has a different RAW format that can be handled by Capture One versus the LX3 that comes with Silky Pix editor, which is rather slow. Now Adobe has released converters to DNG, it really is not too relevant any more. Obviously both cameras are styled slightly different.

The Leica case is for the D-Lux-3. I modified it a bit so the D-Lux 4 fits better by removing side padding and cutting a hole in the bottom. The D-lux-4 case is now availble, but is a bit more bulky, while the D-Lux 3 case is more useable to my taste. The Lumix LX3 case fits as well, though it’s a bit loose around the grip as it is styled for the LX3 grip.

The view finder is an original 21mm view finder. The 24mm actually is a bit smaller then what the lens sees, and the 21mm seems to be a better fit. The other view finder is a 50mm vintage view finder – this is useful when shooting in 60mm zoom mode.

The wide angle converter is the Panasonic wide angle converter for the LX3. It is fully compatible, except that the D-Lux 4 has no menu option to recognize the wide angle converter.

The filters are a Kenko 46mm circular PL filter and a Kenko 46mm ND-4 filter. These filters are a bit cheaper than the Panasonic branded ones.

The tripod is the Leica mini tripod. The flash shoe protector is a Nikon part (BS-1).

Q&A: How to get video from Panasonic Leica Dicomar to computer?

Question by BleachPhantom: How to get video from Panasonic Leica Dicomar to computer?
cant figure this out… we installed all the software and whatnot, but still have no idea how to get the video onto my computer. help?!
its a PV-GS150

Answer by snowwillow20
Is it a minidv? We need the model # the Leica Dicomar is the lens.

edit…….MINIDV
You have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, Firewire to usb will not work to download video. You might end up with only sound or only video. Your PC might not have a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, you need to buy a firewire cord too. Your camcorder came with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. If you have a laptop, make sure your laptop has an empty bay for a card.
The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.

What is the best semi pro cameras with a leica lens?

Question by Hershie101: What is the best semi pro cameras with a leica lens?
Right now, i’m leaning towards the Lumix FZ35 and the Olympus sp-600uz

I’m confused between these two, should i get the fz35 or the sp-600uz? or maybe other suggestions?
What do you think about the sp-800uz?

I was going to get the fz35 but then the sp-600uz has interchangeable lenses so i’m a bit confused

Best answer:

Answer by Petra_au
I’m not sure why you think any of those cameras are ‘semi-pro’ cameras…because they’re definitely, NOT. They are just your average point & shoot, ‘super-zoom’ camera with small image sensor, but with the addition of full manual controls and a long (fixed) zoom lens. If you want ‘semi-pro’ with interchangeable lenses and better image quality and faster performance…you should be looking at a camera with a large image sensor instead (dSLR).

I wouldn’t recommend Olympus, because they aren’t great when it comes to image quality. Also, the SP-600 UZ or SP-8000 UZ have NO viewfinder (optical or electronic). If the only other choice is the Panasonic FZ35…then it’s better than Olympus. But, it only has a crappy electronic viewfinder, which are terrible compared to an optical viewfinder.

How big of a memory card should I use for my Leica C- Lux 3?

Question by Lowell: How big of a memory card should I use for my Leica C- Lux 3?
I’m taking a trip to London and Paris in early November and plan on taking alot of pictures, probably 300-400. I know that the quality of pictures vary depending on the size of memory card, so I want to choose the right one. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer by sheasked
A few 1 or 2 GB memory cards would be appropriate for a vacation. It’s best you take several cards with small capacities. If something goes wrong with one, you lose the data, or can’t find it, not all of your photos would be lost, just the ones on that memory card.

Leica, as any company, must make a profit to survive. But excessive profitability is not the reason Leica is so expensive (they have lost money in recent years, actually). I own Leica myself, and have for more than 30 years. Leica’s standards of design, manufacture, and performance (optical and mechanical) are the world’s highest. Their lenses are state of the art in all respects, including mechanical aspects. Their durability is far greater than that of Japanese products. How is this achieved? It ain’t cheap. It costs money to research and produce the finest lenses. Just the raw glass itself (before cutting and polishing) for many Leica lenses costs more than the entire finished product of other companies at retail! Take the 50mm 1.4 Summilux-R, for example. It costs about $ 2000 retail. It’s also the best 50mm 1.4 in the world. (The raw galss alone costs more than a Nikkor or Canon 50mm 1.4.) To get this performance, Leica has invested in glass research and owns propreitary glass formulations that no-one else has, or that other companies can’t afford to use, because their cost would then be so high that they could not market the lens. Each company has a ‘niche’, and though Leica has a reputation that allows them the luxury of making and selling costly lenses, not every other firm can do that. In other words, Leica, being devoted to being the best AND achieving it, has earned them the marketing clout that enables them to sell that product. Other companies have not achieved the level that Leica does, and can’t afford to do so. That’s not their market.

You’ll note, though, that the extreme focal lengths of any camera company are all pretty expensive, regardless of make.

And yes, Leica lenses ARE worth it!
