I want to buy a Contax or a Leica camera, what do you suggest?

Question by Mere Mortal: I want to buy a Contax or a Leica camera, what do you suggest?

Dr. Sam, I did know that.

Indeed, Contax makes an AF rangefinder with interchangeable lens. Can you believe that!?
Copy that.

I have a Leica IIIf with a Summicron.

Would love to find a Contax G with a couple of the lenses. Dr. Sam, you have good taste!

  1. It depends upon your budget. Go for the Leica if you can afford it.

I own two and use them too.

  2. Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you. I like different Nikon’s better than some Canon’s and vice versa, depending on what you are planning to do with the camera.

Oh snap. I meant to say, “I like different Nikon’s better than some Canon’s and vice versa, depending on what you are planning to do with the camera.”

Just to make this more interesting, did you know that both Leica and Contax made both rangefinder _AND_ SLR cameras?

Why wouldn’t I believe that? From your mouth to my ears. The autofocus is in the body, so the lens doesn’t matter. If it was an AF-S rangefinder, that’d be different. :-)
